Midsummer Wakes - Press Release

Midsummer Wakes: Newcastle Under Lyme Carnival Parade, Saturday 22 July Watch out for dragons, spaceships, birds, and B-Arts Big Blue Girl as streets of Newcastle come alive for Midsummer Wakes Carnival Parade.

This year we have three carnival artists, Emma Garafolo, Richard Redwin and Hilary Hughes making image of ‘Flight’ with volunteers and groups across Newcastle including; The Social Agency, Seabridge Primary School, St Marys Primary School and the Young Tenants Group. Bands this year will be Wake the Streets community band and Kotu Drummers.

We will be back in our town centre Wakes HQ, 60 Ironmarket from Monday 10th July getting ready to flock though the town centre in an abundance of colour and celebration. We are still looking for volunteers who can give a little bit of time and get a lot of fun back. We have several roles which include making the carnival images, joining in the parade or even joining the band. Programme for the day: • 10 am Entertainment from HitMix Radio • 11 amDance performances from local dance groups • 12 noon Stiltwalking from Circus in a Box • 1 pm The Town Crier will announce the winner of the Best Dressed Window competition • 1.30pm Drumming workshop from Kotu Drummers • 2 pm CARNIVAL PARADE!
